Belize

I forgot to take a picture of our cabana, but you can sort of see it in this one, the second one from the left (the lower roof).  It's split down the middle with two rooms per cabana.

Highlight of our trip, lobster spearing!  The white thing under water is the lobster "trap".  It doesn't actually trap them. They like dark places to sleep during the day, so they pick the trap.  Belizean fishing philosophy is that marine animals need a chance to get away, so you chase them out of the trap to spear them, sometimes they get away!

Here's Kyle trying spearing.  Lots of music on the boat!  Kyle didn't get any, but he was close.  Hector, our deckhand, was a good fish and lobster catcher.  If you know your are going to do this, practicing your diving skills to the bottom of the pool would be good!  Some depths were only 5 feet, some up to 20 feet. We also went snorkeling, but I didn't get any pictures.

We had a restaurant cook the lobster and red snapper we caught, it was outstanding.  It was three platters worth for nine people.  Best meal we had in a while, hands down.  The food in Belize is really good.

End of Summer

We camped the weekend after the resort.  The kids had so much fun just messing around on the paddle board, kayaking and fishing.  The dog even went swimming, fetching sticks in the water!  She hasn't liked water much, but definitely got a lot more comfortable...I think she'll be good to go swimming again now.  

We got back from Wyoming on Tuesday night.  Apparently we only took pictures in North Dakota and Minnesota!  There was so much smoke in the air in Sheridan we just met up with friends and didn't end up going up to the mountains.  You couldn't even see the mountains from town or the interstate.  But, the North Dakota badlands were really neat.  There's a buffalo in the picture.

Bike riders

Calvin finally learned how to ride his bike on two wheels tonight!  He was so ecstatic!  We could hear him shouting "Woohoo!" as he was riding down the street.

Isaac was also rockin' it on his balance bike!

Strawberry picking

A couple weekends ago we went strawberry picking in Woodstock, IL, about an hour from our house.  It was a HOT day, but it was worth it!

Busy weekends

Last weekend we tackled the landscaping around the patio.  We just bought some edgers, hostas, a hydrangea plant, and called it good.  A weekend of work made a big difference!

The high school student council has dragon boat races every year and most schools in the district have teams and there are a bunch of teams made up of high school students.  I was on the Sunnyside team, and David got recruited last minute, and the races were today.  We got 1st place out of the staff teams!!!  It was so much fun!
