Sandbox

We had way too much sand for the little patio project we did, so Eliza got a sandbox!

Temecula Wine Country

First off, we definitely felt that earthquake last night! We were sitting on the couch and felt a small tremor first. Then about 3 seconds later we were rocking back and forth. Ryan and I jumped up but we didn't really know what to do! Ryan went to stand in a doorway and I just braced myself. It didn't last too long, about as long as the one we had at easter. Anyway, here are some pictures from our trip to Temecula. The four of us (us and our friends Nick and Katy) took a jeep tour of three wineries in Temecula. We got six tastings at each winery and also a small cheese and meat plate. It was really pretty and only 45 miles away from San Diego!

Can you see that this barrel is made of Minnesota Oak??

More pictures

Here are a few more pictures from our trip. The park is FULL of lizards of all shapes and sizes. In the early 1900s, I think between 1910 and 1966, a family lived in Joshua Tree and operated a ranch, mill, and mine. There are still relics of these structures in certain areas of the park. Also, we went to the Air Museum in Palm Springs on Memorial Day on our way back to San Diego.

Joshua Tree and Palm Springs

We went to Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park for the 3 day weekend. We camped out in the desert and went hiking during the day. We had a blast!! The pictures are kind of out of order but I've labeled them.
Our campsite at an area of the park called Black Rock Canyon.

There are huge rock formations all over the park. They just seem to rise out of the desert.
The Joshua trees at night as seen from our campsite. :)

We drove through a big part of the park to see the groves of Joshua trees.

This is called Arch Rock and it is a naturally occurring rock formation.
Fulfilling my dream of going to Joshua Tree!
We took a 3 mile hike to a REAL oasis in the desert. There was a spring underground that fed a small pond where they palm trees grew. Everything surrounding the oasis was rocky mountain and very hot and dry.

This is the oasis from farther away. You can see how it just springs out of the desert.

Before we set up camp in Joshua Tree we stopped in Palm Springs. This is the "Honeymoon House" where Elvis and Priscilla lived for a year after they got married. Notice the treble clefs on the gate.
