Prague's Beer Trail

Megan, Kyle, and Eliza gave Ryan "The Beer Book" for Christmas in 2009.  Since then, Ryan has tried to drink every beer in the book.  On our trip, he was able to cross off 29 different European beers.  In addition to beers, the "The Beer Book" also has a few recommended "Beer Trail" pub crawls.  We successfully completed the Prague Beer Trail.

Pub 1 - The Pivodum.
The Pivodum is known for their interesting brews - banana, coffee, sour cherry, nettle, and a tasty beer-champagne combo.
We encountered a beautiful sunset as we walked to our next stop along the trail.
Pub 2 - The U Fleku.  Founded in 1499, U Fleku is the world's OLDEST brewpub.

They only make and serve one kind of beer and it was delicious!
As we drank, we were serenaded by an oompah band consisting of a tuba player and accordionist.  Also, look closely at the chandelier.
You don't order beer a U Fleku.  Instead, these waiters constantly circle the large rooms and drop down steins of beer on those that don't have one or have an empty one.  You have to tell them when to stop bringing them!

Pub 3 - Novometsky Pivovar.  This brewpub is known for their goulash and roast knuckle of pork.  We had both.

Novometsky Pivovar also had an excellent beer sampler!

Pub 4 - U Pinkasu.  In 1843, this was the first bar in Prague to serve Pilsner Urquell which it still serves today.
Sara with her Pilsner Urquell.  This was the only beer in Europe we did NOT like.

Ryan is a nerd and transcribed our own guidebook (including "The Beer Book" Beer Trail and beer checklist.  As nerdy as it was, it was incredibly handy.

Pub 5 - U Zlateho Tygra (The Golden Tiger).  A favorite of former Czech president Vaclav Havel and former American president Bill Clinton.

We were the last customers they let in before closing.  Thus, this was our last beer of the night.  Thankfully, our Bed & Breakfast was only 1 block away.

Pub 6 - Old Town Square.  We saved this fun experience for the next day.  Here we tried the original Czech Budweiser and Radler (a combination of beer and sprite).
